Virginia Katherine Sempsrote (Ginny), age 93, formerly of Mattoon, IL and Port St. Lucie, FL, passed away at 7:03 p.m., Monday, October 31, 2011 at Fair Havens Christian Home in Decatur, IL.\r\n\r\nFuneral services in her honor will begin at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 5, 2011 at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938. Reverend Ken Hutchens will officiate. Interment will follow in Dodge Grove Cemetery in Mattoon, IL. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until the service begins.\r\n\r\nVirginia was born July 5, 1918 in Mattoon, IL, the son of Harry and Ona (Flora) Needham. She married Victor (Vic) Sempsrote in Mattoon, IL on April 17, 1937; Vic and Virginia celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary in 2009. Victor passed away December 4, 2009. \r\n\r\nVirginia is survived by their son: Victor W. Sempsrote, Jr. of State College, PA. She leaves seven grandchildren: Jeffrey Grant and wife Heather of Grayslake, IL; Lisa Gregg and husband James of Placida, FL; Laura Birch and husband Mark of Decatur, IL; Dale Sempsrote of Shelbyville, IN; Brooke Sempsrote of Shelbyville, IN; Danealle Johnsonbaugh and husband Patrick of Bellefonte, PA; Brandy Yearick and husband Michael of Julian, PA; and 18 great-grandchildren.\r\n\r\nVirginia was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her daughter, Carol S. Smith; her brother, Wendell Needham; her two sisters, Rosemary Culp and Marguerite Mueller; and one grandchild, Kyle Sempsrote.\r\n\r\nVirginia graduated from Mattoon High School. When she married, she and her husband traveled the country with his job. They returned to Mattoon in 1945. Virginia became the first and only female manager at the Mattoon General Electric Company; she retired in 1973. Virginia and her husband owned and operated the Mattoon Mobile Village at 6th & Marion, until they moved to Port St. Lucie, FL in 1978. After almost 20 years in Florida, Virginia and her husband returned to live in Mattoon in 1996. Virginia enjoyed cooking, sewing, knitting, and crocheting. She was a member of the Mattoon Zonta Club, Mattoon Business & Professional Women, Mattoon Women of the Moose Lodge 803, Member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority of Mattoon.\r\n\r\nVirginia is lovingly remembered by her family and friends. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer''s Association, 303 Hershey Road, Suite 2A, Bloomington, IL 61704 or the American Cancer Society, 2509 S.
