Steven Briggs Hudson\r\n\r\n\r\nMattoon, IL-Steven B. Hudson, 63, of Mattoon, died at 9:27 p.m. Friday, October 28, 2011 in Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, surrounded by his loving family, watching the Cardinal's winning the World Series. \r\n\r\nFuneral service will be Wednesday, November 2, 2011, at 1:00 p.m., at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Mattoon, Illinois, with Reverend Dennis Kollross officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 1, 2011, from 5-7 p.m. at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938. A biblical wake service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery, Mattoon, Illinois, with Military Honors conducted by the VFW Post 4325 of Mattoon, Illinois. \r\n\r\nMr. Hudson was born May 10, 1948, in Charleston, Illinois, the son of Kenneth Earl and Nelda Lee (Briggs) Hudson. He married Marsha K. (Braun) Whitley on April 11, 1987, in Charleston, Illinois. She survives. Also surviving is his mother, Nelda of Charleston, Illinois; his five loving children, David Craig, of Charleston, Illinois, Jarrod Hudson, and his wife Michelle, of Mattoon, Illinois, Clint Hudson, and his wife Mindy, of Sullivan, Illinois, Michelle Whitley Gillis of Mattoon, Illinois, and Christopher Whitley of Mattoon, Illinois; two brothers, Ed Hudson, and his wife Nancy, of Charleston, Illinois, Joe Hudson of Phoenix, Arizona; one sister, Katherine Lawhorn, and her husband Robert, of Charleston, Illinois; and 10 devoted grandchildren.\r\n\r\nHe was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth E. Hudson.\r\n\r\nSteven was a member of Whet Stone Baptist Church, Charleston, Illinois. He attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mattoon, Illinois. He worked for General Electric for 33 years until his retirement in 2003. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, having served for three years during the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device, and was decorated for outstanding service with the Vietnam River Command. He was a member of Mattoon, Illinois VFW Post #4325, and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Mattoon, Illinois. He was an avid golfer in his spare time. He also loved traveling, and watching Jeopardy. He adored spending time with his beloved grandchildren.
