Ruby V. Steele

Ruby V. Steele, age 93, of Mattoon, passed away at 11:40 p.m. on July 19, 2006 at Mattoon Health Care Center.\r\n\r\nThe funeral service honoring her life will be held at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, July 23, 2006 at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home with Reverend Tom Pullen officiating. Visitation will be Saturday evening from 4-7 p.m., also at the funeral home. Interment will be in Zion Hill Cemetery. \r\n\r\nMrs. Steele was born September 20, 1912 in Big Spring Township, Shelby County, IL, the daughter of Nye and Grace (Storm) Pruet. She married Lawrence M. Steele on September 30, 1939 in St. Louis, MO. He passed away on August 20, 1984.\r\n\r\nSurvivors include her children, Lawrence David Steele and wife Evelyn of rural Toledo, IL, Patricia Jean DeVore and husband Judson W. of Shelbyville, IL, Donna June DeLong and husband Willard of Mattoon, IL, and Richard Milton Steele and wife Diane of Ft. Wayne, IN; 10 grandchildren, Judson R. DeVore of Springfield, IL, Jim DeVore and wife Trish of Morris Plain, NJ, Jean DeVore of Effingham, IL, Tom Steele of Toledo, IL, Ed Steele of Toledo, IL, Nancy Lawhorn of Littleton, IL, Tammy James and husband Brian of Greenup, IL, Connie Kline and husband Steve of Mattoon, IL, Chad Steele of Ft. Wayne, IN, and Eric Steele and wife Mandy of Ft. Wayne, IN; 8 great-grandchildren, Shayla Lawhorn of Mattoon, IL, Tyler Lawhorn of Mattoon, IL, Britlynn Lawhorn of Littleton, IL, Kylie Steele of Ft. Wayne, IN, Brielle Steele of Ft. Wayne, IN, Colleen James of Greenup, IL, Michael Kline of Mattoon, IL, and Dante DeVore of Morris Plain, NJ; and 2 sisters-in-law, Ruth Brown of Humboldt, IL, and Mary Welton of Springfield, MO. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, and 3 sisters.\r\n\r\nMrs. Steele attended the Bible Baptist Church and was a devoted farm wife. She enjoyed sharing the responsibilities of the farm, tending the animals, gardening, and such. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and cherished time spent with her family.\r\n\r\nMemorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
