Mattoon, IL - Richard Patrick, age 78, of Mattoon, IL, passed away at 10:05 a.m., on Monday, March 26, 2012 at the Harmony Center of the Odd Fellow-Rebekah Home in Mattoon, IL. \r\nThe funeral service in his honor will begin at 11:00 a.m.,Thursday, March 29th, 2012, at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938. Reverend Toby Davis will officiate. Interment will be in Mt. Zion General Baptist Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by the Mattoon VFW Post 4325. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service (9:00-11:00 a.m.) at the funeral home. \r\nBorn August 2, 1933, in Sadorus, IL, Richard was the son of Marian M., Sr., and Elsie I. (Lillipop) Patrick, both deceased. He married Frieda Young on November 3, 1990, in Decatur, IL. She survives. Other survivors include his children, Diana Shadwick and husband Steve of Mattoon, IL, Debbie Patrick of Shelbyville, IL, Doug Patrick and wife Cheryl of Mattoon, IL, Joe Patrick and wife Sue of Mattoon, IL, David Patrick and wife Susie of Mattoon, IL; two step sons, Kip Speer and wife Sandy of Mattoon, IL, Daren Speer and wife Sheila, of Westfield, IL; two brothers, Marion M. Patrick, Jr., and wife Phyllis of Mattoon, IL, and Alva Patrick of Mattoon, IL; five grandchildren, Steven Shadwick of Mattoon, IL, Gina Milne and husband Mike of Bloomington, IL, Clayton Patrick of Mattoon, IL, Jessica Patrick of Bloomington, IN, and Jennifer Patrick of Charleston, IL; and four step grandchildren, Gracie and Tanner Speer of Mattoon, IL, and Kayla and Kasey Speer of Westfield, IL. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Esther Waggoner and Doris Patrick; and one granddaughter, Amanda Shadwick. \r\nMr. Patrick was a farmer and truck driver. He was a former employee of Meadow Gold, Rural King, and Service Equipment. He later retired as a self-employed driver who drove for Rex and Don Trucking in Charleston, IL. \r\nA veteran of the Korean Conflict, Mr. Patrick served our country with the United States Army from 1953-1955. He was a member of the Good Prospect Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Trilla, IL, and a former member of the First General Baptist Church of Mattoon, IL. Other memberships included the Lerna Lion's Club, and Mattoon Eagles and Moose Lodges.\r\nWhen Richard was not tending to his cattle and hogs, or driving a truck, he enjoyed woodworking and playing golf, cards, or BINGO with friends.
