Mary Elizabeth “Liz” Titus, age 66 of Lerna, IL passed away Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Willow Breeze Hospice House in Mattoon, IL following a courageous battle with cancer. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM, Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, located at 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938. A committal service will immediately follow in Upper Muddy Cemetery in Pleasant Grove Township, IL. The visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Friday evening, March 13,2026 at the funeral home. Liz was born on October 11,1959 in Tulsa, OK to the late Charles A. and Donna M. (Smith) Hoover. She married Lyle R. Titus on July 18, 2011, in Charleston, IL; he survives. She is survived by two sons, Jason Livingston and wife Lisa of Rome, NY, Jordan Livingston and wife Shay of Herrin, IL; two grandchildren, Payton Livingston of Rome, NY, Gracie A. Livingston of Rochester, NY; her mother, Donna Hoover of Mattoon, IL; two brothers, David K. Hoover and wife Jolene of Clemson, SC, Mike T. Hoover and wife Carrie of Downers Grove, IL; and nieces, Hayley Hoover of Central, SC, and Carley Hoover of Clemson, SC. Liz grew up and attended school in Mattoon IL along with her brothers David and Michael Hoover. Following high school, Liz traveled and lived in several different places throughout the world. Everywhere she went she was able to quickly make lifelong friends. She had a smile that would warm up the room and the ability to make everyone feel welcomed and at ease. Liz worked in the healthcare field, most recently at the Crossroads Cancer Center in Effingham up until her retirement. Throughout the years, she touched many lives and was a helpful advocate for patients. Always caring and empathetic, Liz found fulfillment, happiness, and humility alongside those fighting cancer. Family was immensely important to Liz. Her two sons, Jason and Jordan Livingston, were the light of her life, always speaking highly of them. They gave her the greatest blessings, her grandchildren, Payton and Gracie, whom she greatly adored. Liz treasured any occasion spent with family and enjoyed orchestrating family gatherings at her and Lyle’s home to make many wonderful memories. She and Lyle created an environment where everyone was always welcome. As Liz courageously fought cancer, she had the love of her mother, husband, and family by her side. Together they brought strength and devotion dedicated to Liz during this difficult time. She will lovingly remembered by all whose lives she touched.
