Mattoon, IL-Marjorie Ruth Early, age 88, of Mattoon, IL, passed away at 6:45p.m., Monday, May 17, 2010, at Mattoon Health Care Center. \r\n\r\nThe funeral service in her honor will begin at 1:00 p.m., Friday, May 21, 2010, at First Baptist Church, 1804 South 9th Street, Mattoon, IL, 61938, with Reverend Stephanie Johanpeter and Reverend Mike Snow officiating. Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 11:00 am until service time. Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home , located at 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938, is in charge of arrangements.\r\n\r\nMrs. Early was born August 4, 1921 in Humboldt, IL, the daughter of James and Grace (Dixon) Eastin. She married Robert Early on August 3, 1941 in St. Charles, MO. He preceded her in death on May 6, 2003. Survivors include two children, Stephan L. Early and wife Linda of New Caney, TX, and Kathie D. Early of Mattoon, IL; her brothers and sisters, Harvey L. Eastin of Champaign, IL, Dean Eastin and wife Marilyn of Humboldt, IL, Lucille Closson of Bethany, IL, and Elyn Pagliano of Charleston, IL; two grandchildren, Kimberly Newton and husband Michael of Giddings, TX, and Michelle Simon and husband Joris of Draper, UT; a sister in law, Ethel O'day of Mattoon, IL; a niece, Vickie O'day of Charleston, IL; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a son, four brothers, and three sisters.\r\n\r\nMrs. Early was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Mattoon for more than 60 years. She was a member of the Board of Christian Education, DIACONATE, American Baptist Women, Sonshine Fellowship, and was also a Sunday school teacher. \r\n\r\nShe had been an Avon representative, was a former kindergarten teacher for the First Baptist Church and was a former waitress for the Dinner Bell Restaurant. \r\n\r\nThe family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the First Baptist Church, 1804 South 9th, Mattoon, IL, 61938, for missionary support in Haiti or towards the ramp fund.\r\n\r\nPlease visit www.mitchell-jerdan.com to light a virtual candle or share a memory with the family. \r\n
