Judith “Judy” D. Gordon, age 75 of Effingham, IL formerly of Mattoon, IL passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL. A funeral service in her honor will be held at 12:00 PM, Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938. Reverend Ron Dickinson will officiate. A committal service will immediately follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Mattoon, IL. The visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home. The family requests that you wear casual attire. Judy was born on October 5, 1949, in Salem, IL to the late Ernest Olin and Altris Renabell (McClain) Wimberly. She married James Fox on December 6, 1969, in Salem, IL; he preceded her in death on July 7, 1997. She later married Roger A. Gordon in Mattoon, IL on July 19, 2003; he survives and resides in Effingham, IL. She is also survived by four children: Jason E. Fox and wife Jennifer of Olney, IL, Tina Moore and husband Larry of Neoga, IL, Chad C. Gordon and wife Kelly of Lockport, IL, Matthew T. Gordon and wife Terri of Casey, IL; one brother, Ernest R. Wimberly and wife Janet of Benton, IL, three sisters: Janet L. Vieira and husband John of Salem, IL, Cynthia L. Hower and husband John of Salem, IL; eleven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Dixie Boyle. Judy attended the Zion Hill Methodist Church of Mattoon, IL. In 2014, she retired from First Federal Savings and Loan which is now Washington Savings Bank in Mattoon, IL as a compliance officer. She was a member of the Kiwanis Club and the Order of the Eastern Star both in Mattoon, IL. An avid sports fan, Judy enjoyed all sports, especially the Chicago Bears, St. Louis Cardinals, and Illini basketball. She regularly attended her grandchildren’s sporting events and activities as she was their greatest encourager and biggest fan. She loved traveling and all her favorite destinations included sunshine, sand, and a beach. This loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend will be dearly missed.
