Ivan Price\r\nMattoon, IL-Walter Ivan Price, age 96, of Mattoon, IL, quietly passed away at 7:50 a.m., Friday, August 7, 2009, at his residence. \r\nA funeral service in honor of his life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL, 61938, with Pastor Don Selvidge officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until time of service. Interment will be in Janesville Cemetery.\r\nMr. Price was born May 17, 1913, near Toledo, Illinois, the son of John Walter and Ida Maude (Whitaker) Price. He married Dorothy Dora Price on October 11, 1937 in Toledo, Illinois; she passed away on April 11, 2007. He is survived by his three children; Larry Price and wife Nancy of Portland, Or; Don Price and wife Linda of Mattoon, Il; Sue Ann Cain and husband Dick of Decatur, Il. Nine grandchildren, Laura Baughman and husband Tom of Portland, Or; Mark Price of Portland, OR; Jennifer Sims and husband Casey of Portland, Or; Holly Bernhardt and husband Merle of Tulsa, Ok; Dana Zimmer and husband Jim of Mattoon, Il; Amy Carr and husband Tom of Aspen, Co; Doug Cain and wife Kate of Oswego, Il; Ryan Cain of Greenwood, In; and Brad Cain of Decatur, Il. He is also survived by seventeen great grandchildren. The family would like to acknowledge his trusted caregivers Karen Lewis and Dena Burtcheard. They provided Ivan with love and dignity during his last few years and made it possible for him to stay in the home he built.\r\nIvan was a devoted member of the Dewitt Avenue Church of Christ. Throughout his life, Ivan worked diligently at every endeavor. As a young man, he farmed and worked in the oil fields. After marriage and moving to Mattoon, he owned and operated Mattoon Fertilizer Co. for many years. Together with his wife they owned and maintained rental property. With his son, he developed Price Avenue subdivision. He loved weekends at Lake Mattoon with his family. He also enjoyed his winter friends in Homestead, Florida. Ivan lived a full and happy life. His favorite song 'Wonderful Words of Life' was the theme of his life.\r\nMemorials in his honor may be made to the donor's choice.
