Frances Arlene Mayhew

Frances Arlene Mayhew, age 76, of Greenup, IL passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at her residence. A funeral service in her honor will be held at 12:00 PM, Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938. Pastor Cliff Shaw will officiate. A committal service will immediately follow at Zion Hill Cemetery in Lake Paradise Township. The visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home. Frances was born on February 15, 1950, to the late Leo Franklin Flood and Patricia Ann (Veach) Branscum. She married the love of her life, Donald Floyd Mayhew in Greenup, IL in 1969: he survives and resides in Greenup. She is also survived by her three children: Ellsworth "Ells" L. Mayhew and wife Jenny of Mattoon, IL, Robbie L. Kline and husband Matt of Neoga, IL, Donald F. Mayhew II of Davenport, IA; two brothers Frank Flood and wife JoAnne of Greenup, IL, Mark Branscum of Shelbyville, IL; one sister, Barb Yocum of TN; seven grandchildren: Wayne and Miles Mayhew of Mattoon, IL, Kaitlyn Wernsing of Effingham, IL, Nick Wernsing and significant other Julie Brown of Effingham, IL, Seth Kline of Gays, IL, Chelsea Kline of Humboldt, IL; DoniRae Mayhew of Davenport, IL; six great grandchildren: Isabella, Lincoln, Liam, Holden, Hadleigh, and Kaysen. Frances was a faithful member of Jack Oak Church of God in Greenup, IL. She retired after many years as an accountant with RR Donnelley in Mattoon. She found joy in gardening, sewing, cooking, woodworking, and horseback riding with her beloved husband, Don. She also dearly loved her poodles, who were faithful companions throughout the years. Family was the center of Frances' life. Her son Ellsworth was the light of her life, and she treasured every moment spent with her children and grandchildren and shared an especially close bond with Wayne and Miles. Those who knew Frances will remember her gentle heart, quiet strength, and unwavering kindness. She never had an unkind word to say about anyone, and her warmth and compassion left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
