Dorothy Nacola Roling

Dorothy Nacola Roling, age 88 of Mattoon, IL passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at Mattoon Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. A funeral service in her honor will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, April 3, 2026, at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938. Mike Erwin will officiate. A committal service will immediately follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Mattoon, IL. The visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home. Dorothy was born on April 20, 1937, in Mattoon, IL to the late James Almond and Sarah Dorothy (Mitchell) Dare. She married Clifford “Mick” Harold Roling on July 29, 1954, in Mattoon, IL; he preceded her in death on May 23, 2008. She is survived by one son, Clifford H. Roling and wife Paula of Mattoon, IL, one daughter, Nina J. Curry of Mattoon, IL; five grandchildren: Michelle Saunders and husband Brandon of Mattoon, IL, Ronnie Curry and wife Megan of Mattoon, IL, Courtney Rhoads and husband Dusty of Mattoon, IL, Gunnar Roling and wife Brittney of Teutopolis, IL, Jeff Mingus of Charleston, IL; nine great-grandchildren: Lexi Saunders, Briannae Saunders, Charleigh Curry, Briar Rhoads, Archie Rhoads, Kendyl Oseland, Emma, Amelia, and Laney Mingus; one great-great grandchild, Hope Mingus; and one brother, James L. Dare of Mattoon, IL. She was preceded in death by one son, James W. Roling; one son-in-law, Ron Curry; one great-great grandson, Greyson Mingus; three brothers: Ronald, Larry, and Troy Dare. Dorothy was a devoted member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and a proud member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker who found joy in caring for her family and home. She loved cooking and was especially known for favorites like bacon and eggs, homemade noodles, and lemon meringue pie. Dorothy also enjoyed traveling, playing cards and dice, spending time outdoors, and most of all, making memories with the family she loved so deeply. Although dearly missed, she will be remembered for her warm heart, loving spirit, and the special comfort she brought to those around her.
