Doris Webb

Dorisgene “Doris” Webb, age 89 of Mattoon, IL passed away Wednesday, June 14,2023 at 2:56 PM, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, IL. A funeral service in her honor will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, June 19, 2023, at First Christian Church, 1600 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938; Pastor Dennis Strawn will officiate. A committal service will immediately follow in Dodge Grove Cemetery in Mattoon, IL. A visitation will be held the same day from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the church. Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938 is in charge of services. Doris was born on March 7, 1934, in Mattoon, IL to the late Robert E. and Edna (Powell) VanGundy. She married Joe M. Webb on August 26, 1951; he preceded her in death on May 22, 2003. She is survived by two sons, Mack D. Webb and wife Jean of Mattoon, IL, Matthew J. Webb of Mattoon, IL; ten grandchildren: Theresa Rhodes and husband Jake, Vanessa Duncan and husband Brad, Meredith Perez and husband Nick, Abby Howard, Megan Webb and significant other Max Moore, Robert Webb, Lynn Potter and husband Clayton, Wyatt Webb, C.J. Clearwater, Kevin Clearwater and wife Jana; thirteen great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Celeste R. Webb of Mattoon, IL; son-in-law, Chris Clearwater of Winter Haven, FL. She is preceded in death by one son, Van A. Webb; one daughter, JoElla Clearwater; two grandchildren, Mitchell Webb, Kyle Clearwater; six brothers; and six sisters. Doris retired from General Electric in Mattoon, IL where she worked as the first female foreman. After retirement, she worked at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, IL in Textbook Rental Services for numerous years. She was a devoted member of First Christian Church in Mattoon, IL having served as a deaconess and prepared funeral dinners for many years. She later attended First Baptist Church in Mattoon, IL, was an active member of Mattoon Exchange Club and volunteer at Mattoon Community Food Center. Doris was an avid card player of all games. She was exceptionally talented in the kitchen and happily shared her meals and baked goods with the community. She treasured her role as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Time spent with her large family was always cherished, especially all the memories made at the VanGundy-Powell family reunions and days spent at Lake Mattoon. Doris had a larger-than-life personality with a great sense of humor, and her legacy love and laughter will be carried on through the hearts of all who knew her.
