Dixie L. Lynn

Dixie Lee Lynn, age 83 of Mattoon, IL formerly of Topeka, KS peacefully passed away at 9:26 AM, Thursday, January 28, 2021 at Odd-Fellow Rebekah Home. A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring at Memorial Park Cemetery in Topeka, KS. Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, located at 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938 is in charge of arrangements. Dixie was born on August 28, 1937 in Falls City, NE to the late Samuel Franklin and Amanda Belle (Bretches) Dykes. She married James Kenneth Lynn on September 26, 1966; he preceded her in death on May 3, 2003. She is survived by two daughters: Shawn Marie Lynn-Bequette and husband Gregory Michael of Kansas City, KS; Samantha Lynn Eggleston and husband Scott LeRoy of Mattoon, IL; four grandchildren: Devlin Michael and Leighton Mai Bequette of Kansas City, KS; Blake LeRoy and Brenton James Eggleston of Mattoon, IL; three sisters, Lois “Mid”Geraldine Haynes and husband William G. of Topeka, KS; Patricia Anne Hummel of Topeka, KS; Judith Mae Auza of Oakland, CA. She is preceeded in death by one infant sister, Fern Dykes; and one brother-in-law, Karl E. Hummel. Dixie was an executive psychiatric secretary for Topeka State Hospital Adult Outpatient. Formerly she was employed at the Topeka Capital Journal and later Pelletier’s. She had a great appreciation for Mother Nature and treasured the scenic route of Lake Perry in Kansas with her husband. She delighted in observing the antics of the birds and squirrels from the feeders she lovingly provided; and soaking up the majesty and viewing the bald eagles and deer in their natural habitat. The heart of a mom, Dixie was very active in the lives of her children and grandchildren, always a supporter and encourager. She assisted Topeka Swim Association as a stroke judge while her daughters were involved in swimming in their younger years and continued watching her grandchildren compete in various sporting events. She was a huge fan of the Kansas Jayhawks and Kansas City Chiefs. Dixie touched the lives of many and made a lasting impact on everyone she met.
