Charles David Wyrick

Mattoon-Charles David Wyrick, age 92, of Mattoon, IL passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 9:06 a.m. at Mattoon Health Care Center. \r\n\r\nThe funeral service in his honor will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. at the Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. John Calio officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30-11:30 a.m., also on Tuesday. Interment with Military Rites will be held at Bethel Cemetery.\r\n\r\nCharles was born November 5, 1921, in Clark County, IL, the son of George Dewey and Margaret (Horsely) Wyrick. He married Lela Ruth Nicol on September 11, 1948 in Marshall, IL. She survives. He is survived by his five children; Sharon Birdsong and her husband David of Mattoon, IL, Barbara Pelley of Dunnville, KY, Judy Walden and her husband Larry of Oblong, IL, Dennis Wyrick of Effingham, IL and Darrell Wyrick of Mattoon, IL. Three sisters, Irene Raubuck and her husband Curt of Terre Haute, IN, Betty Stafford of Marshall, IL and Joan Auld of Ballwin, MO. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son-in-law, two brothers 'in-law, two sisters-in-law and his parents.\r\n\r\nCharles proudly served his county in the United States Army during World War II and Korea. He was an active member of the First Southern Baptist Church of Mattoon. He was a past secretary of the Mattoon Elks Club and a lifetime member of the Mattoon VFW Post 4325. He enjoyed fishing and sharing his fish with friends and family. Charlie enjoyed tinkering around with things, he could repair most anything. He also enjoyed vegetable gardening, which many of his friends benefited from as well. He cherished spending time with his loving wife of sixty-five years and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.\r\n\r\nCharles retired as an office machine repairman at Alexander''s Office Equipment. He was the owner of Quality Fashions.
