Barbara Ann (Boyer) McLain

Barbara Ann (Boyer) McLain, age 77 of Mattoon, IL passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center. A funeral service in her honor will be held at 12:00 PM, Monday, February 2, 2026, at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938. Reverend Ron Dickinson and Reverend Todd Krost will officiate. A committal service will immediately follow at Dodge Grove Cemetery in Mattoon, IL. The visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home. Barb was born on November 9, 1948, in Franklin, PA to the late Robert E. and Jean L. (Sadler) Boyer. She married Dennis James McLain on August 3, 1984, in St. Louis, MO; he preceded her in death on October 14, 2018. She is survived by her sister, Cathy J. Boyer of Mattoon, IL; one nephew, Brian Zachow and wife Janelle of Bloomington, IL; and one niece, Dawn M. Zachow and significant other, Brian Goad of Mattoon, IL; two great-nephews, Jared and Hunter Zachow; and one great niece, Rachel Zachow. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Bonnie J. Zachow, and Adeline “Nadine” Boyer. Barb was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mattoon, IL. She retired from GE after thirty-seven years of dedicated service, where she made many lasting friendships. She was a member of the Queen Bees quilting group, and the GG's (great girlfriends’ group). She was a gifted photographer with a true eye for capturing life, weddings, receptions, events, and nature alike. In 1966, she achieved recognition by winning the Home Economics Award at Mattoon High School. She was also known for her beautiful voice, sharing her talent in both the Mattoon High School chorus and later her church choir. She remained committed to the class of 1966 and worked tirelessly on class reunions, keeping records updated, and notifying members of changes. Quick witted, with a fun sense of humor, Barb laughed a lot. She loved animals, enjoyed keeping a manicured lawn and flower garden, and hosting pool parties. She was a great sister, aunt, and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
