William Joseph Hutton

William Joseph Hutton, age 88 of Charleston, IL passed away at 2:22 PM Sunday, July 26, 2020 at Hilltop Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation in Charleston, IL. A graveside service in his honor will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 1, 2020 at Zion Hill Cemetery in Paradise Township, Coles County, IL; Pastor Ron Dickinson will officiate. Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, located at 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938, is in charge of services. Bill was born in Ash Grove Township, IL on May 4,1932 to the late Cecil and Henrietta (McCartney) Hutton. He married Rose Fowler on February 27,1954. He later married Dorothy Burcham on October 21, 1982 in Missouri; she survives. He is also survived by one daughter, Peggy D. Arthur-Swinford and husband Theron (Herc) of Mattoon, IL; one son, Roger D. Hutton and wife Sammy of Monterey Bay, CA; two step-sons, Jerry A. Vacker and wife Laura Jean of Miller, MO, and Jeffrey L Vacker and wife Sandra of Chloride, AZ; one sister Nora M. Tull and husband Bill of Shelbyville, IL; one grandchild, Erika J. Arthur of Mattoon, IL; and several nephews and nieces. He is preceded in death by two brothers, Glen, and Virgil; four sisters, Juanita, Wanda, Phyllis, and Thelma; and one grandchild, Greta Marie Arthur. Bill was the owner operator of Bill Hutton Construction in Lovington, IL, where he enjoyed a life long career in land and soil conservation construction. Bill was greatly influenced from his dozer operator training during his military days, when he proudly served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. After retirement, Bill moved to Southern Missouri where he taught himself the art of wood working, blessing his family and friends with furniture he lovingly made. During his spare time, Bill pursued his love of Mother Nature and enjoyed traveling, camping, and fishing with his wife Dorothy and family. Bill was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
