Norma Jean Pardieck, age 94 of Mattoon, IL peacefully passed away on Saturday evening, March 28, 2020 at Life’s Journey Senior Living in Mattoon, IL. A private family graveside service will be held at Dodge Grove Cemetery; Reverend Willie Grills will officiate. Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938 is in charge of services. Norma was born on May 11, 1925 in Hutton Township, IL the daughter of the late Kester H. and Mary T. (Rothrock) Ashby. She married D. Dean Pardieck on February 11, 1950 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Dorans, IL; he preceded her in death on May 4, 2005. She is survived by two daughters, Kathy L. Thompson and husband Steve of Mattoon, IL, Kay D. Arthur and husband Bob of Phoenix, AZ; four grandchildren: Erin N. Spurgeon and husband Ronnie of Mattoon, IL, Andrea K. Gilbert and husband Shane of Mahomet, IL, Katie T. Larson and husband Greg of Phoenix, AZ, Shayne R. Arthur and wife Cindy of Phoenix, AZ; eleven great-grandchildren: Dylan, Aidan, Jackson, Maddy, Mitchell, Ava, Hannah, Lauren, Allison, Emma, and Ava; her dear friend, Joan and the loving family and caregivers at Life’s Journey Senior Living. She is preceded in death by one brother, Thomas H. Ashby. Norma was a graduate of Mattoon High School and majored in Music at Milliken University in Decatur, IL. After college, she was employed by Ryan and Heller Law Firm in Mattoon as a receptionist. Norma devoted her time to many organizations among the community. She was a proud charter member of the Sarah Bush Lincoln Guild and managed the hospital gift shop for numerous years. As an art enthusiast, she was actively involved with the Mattoon Area Art Guild and Sullivan Art Club. Throughout the years, Norma won many awards for her impressive water color paintings. Norma was a person of faith and lived her life serving others. She was a devoted member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, and her love and passion for music was experienced through the congregation as their long-time organist and choir director. She enjoyed the moments spent with loved ones and was adored by her family. She will be lovingly remembered. Memorials in Norma’s honor may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 8975 E.
