Maxine Schneider, age 85 of Mattoon, IL formerly of Mt. Carmel, IL passed away at 4:17 PM, Thursday, December 24, 2019 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Heath Center. A funeral service will be held in her honor at 1:00 PM, Friday, January 3, 2020 at Broadway Christian Church, 1205 S. 9th Street, Mattoon, IL; Pastor Ian Stamps will officiate. A committal service will immediately follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held at noon until the time of service at the church. Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, located at 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL is in charge of the services Maxine was born on October 25, 1934 the daughter of Roy and Maggie (Meserole) McGuire in Keensburg, IL. After a courtship with Owen Walker they married on September 17, 1954 in her hometown of Keensburg, IL. She later married Allyn John Schneider on March 28, 1980 in Mattoon, IL. He preceded her in death on January 3, 2003. She is survived by four children, Mark Walker of Mattoon, IL, Shari Evans (Tom) of Mt. Juliet, TN, Lisa Parker of Mattoon, IL and Michael Walker (Kendra) of Altamont, IL; one stepson, Gene Schneider of Florida; nine grandchildren: Lindsay Engelhardt (Jack) of Mt. Juliet, TN, Adam Cook (Chelsye) of Marion, IL, Tyler Welton of Effingham, IL, Ashley Collett (Matt) of Gainesville, TX, Colton Walker (Brooke) of Fort Polk, LA, Jessica Walker of Ft. Myers, FL, Marcus Walker of Mattoon, IL, Lauren Walker of Altamont, IL, and Alex Walker of Altamont, IL; six great grandchildren; Brayden & Kameron Joyner of Mt. Juliet, Aubrey, Allie, Kobe Collettt of Gainesville, TX and Elena Walker of Ft. Park, LA. In 1973, Maxine moved to Mattoon, IL pursuing a career in accounting with Consolidated Communications. After dedicating twenty years with the company, she later retired on April 29, 1993. Maxine was an active member of Broadway Christian Church and proud member of “Happy Times Club”, a group of ladies who enjoyed a nice meal and conversation every month. She had a keen interest in genealogy and treasured her time her canine companion “Cookie”. Maxine loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. There are many great memories filled with love and laughter. She will be lovingly remembered.
