Marilyn J. Dixon

Marilyn J. Dixon, age 79 of Mattoon, IL passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, IL. A graveside service in her honor will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, February 4, 2023, at Dodge Grove Cemetery in Mattoon, IL. Pastor Gene Creek will officiate. Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938 is in charge of services. Marilyn was born on October 3, 1943, in Bethany, IL to the late Virgil A. and Rosa I. (Hudson) Davis. She married Ronald I. Dixon on November 23, 1962, in Mattoon, IL; he survives and resides in Mattoon, IL. She is also survived by two children, Sherri L. Thomas and husband Curt of Mattoon, IL, Scott A. Dixon and wife Krista of Hertford, NC; one sister, Beverly Elzy and husband Gerald of Sullivan, IL; four grandchildren: Lorena M. Dixon-Oleary and husband Josh of Chesapeake, VA, Matthew L. Dixon and wife Kara of Elizabeth City, NC, Robert V. Dixon of Elizabeth City, NC, Courtney N. Thomas of Mattoon, IL; and three great-grandchildren, Leah M. Oleary of Chesapeake, VA, Elliott G. Evans of Mattoon, IL, Theodore B. Evans of Mattoon, IL. She was preceded in death by seven brothers, two sisters, and one great-grandchild, Cohen T. Evans. Marilyn was a member of the Zion Hill Methodist Church in Paradise Township, Mattoon, IL. She worked in accounts payable at Illinois Plumbing and Heating Supply in Mattoon, IL where she retired in 2010. Prior to that she was employed at Brown Shoe Company and Superior in Mattoon, IL. An avid bowler, Marilyn’s talent, passion, and dedication to the sport served her well as she was inducted into the Women’s Bowling Hall of Fame. An achievement in which she was very proud. She was a true Chicago Cubs fan through good times and bad, never missing a game. She enjoyed crocheting and bird watching. She especially loved observing hummingbirds partaking from the feeders she set out for them. Marilyn embraced her role as a wife, mother, and grandmother, she took great pleasure in being present to support and encourage her children and grandchildren as they participated and competed in sporting events and school endeavors. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all.
