Marilyn Bratt Brummet, 87, of Lerna, IL, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at 9:12 a.m., Thursday July 13, 2017, at Charleston Rehabilitation & Health Care Center, Charleston IL. Her funeral will be on Monday, July 17, 2017, at 2:00 P.M., at the Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home in Mattoon, IL 61938 with Pastoral Care Minister Kevin Wolfe officiating. Burial will follow at Dodge Grove Cemetery in Mattoon IL 61938. Visitation will be held prior to funeral from 12:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. on Monday at the funeral home. Marilyn was born September 20, 1929 in Peoria IL, the daughter of Mearl and Emma Taylor Bratt. Marilyn grew up on a family farm in rural Washburn IL. She received her early education in a one-room school house, then attended and graduated from Washburn High School. Marilyn studied at Eureka College for three years, and then completed her bachelor’s degree in Sociology at Bradley University. She married James M. Brummet on July 2, 1950 in Washburn Christian Church. He survives. Marilyn loved her husband and family with a great passion and dedicated much of her life to making a loving home for them. Additional surviving family members include three children: Connie (Robert) Trefzger of Bloomington IL, David (Zola) Brummet of New River AZ, and Mark (Mary) Brummet of St. Charles MO; eight grandchildren: Dayne (Tatiana) Brummet, Sarah Trefzger, Evan Brummet, Aaron Brummet, Drew (Hope) Brummet, Chelsea Brummet, Lindsey Brummet, and Ross (Joyce) Brummet; ten great grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter Mary Ann, her brother Thomas Bratt, her sister Janice Zook, and a grandson Paul Trefzger. Marilyn worked for 35 years in the Obstetrics Departments of Mattoon Memorial Hospital and Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center. Later she also volunteered at SBLHC and was a member of its Hospital Guild. She was a faithful member of Broadway Christian Church, Mattoon IL. Marilyn was an avid reader, and enjoyed family, travel, camping, and spoiling animals. She will be dearly missed by all those whose lives she touched.
