Marian Louise Armstrong

On March 29, 2018 Marian Louise Armstrong entered eternity to be in the presence of her Savior, Jesus Christ. The graveside funeral service in her honor will begin at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at Dodge Grove Cemetery; Chaplin James Galyon of the United States Airforce will officiate. Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Marian was born May 5, 1925 to Fred and Bertha Mae (Adkins) Decker. She married the love of her life, Elmer James Armstrong Jr. on January 14, 1945. Marian is survived by two daughters: Deidra Galyon and husband William of Barnhart, MO, and Gail Casey and husband Michael of Charleston, IL; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and one brother. Marian is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Vicki Ann; and two sisters. Marian worked at the University of Illinois for twenty-three years as head secretary and curriculum counselor at the Institute of Aviation. Marian was very artistic and won several awards for her painting. At one time, she drew cartoons for Sport Aviation, an international publication produced by the Experimental Aircraft Association. She was a licensed private pilot and owned an Aeronca Champ. Marian was a longtime resident of Tuscola, IL and served on the school board for many years. She also served as Co-President of the Douglas County Museum and a was member of the Methodist Church.
