Karen Sue Barnes

Karen S. Barnes, age 70 of Mattoon, IL passed away at 1:39 PM, Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center. A funeral service in her honor will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, April 13, 2020 at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, located at 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938; Pastor Bob Vail will officiate. Burial will immediately follow in Humboldt Cemetery. The visitation will be held from noon until the time of service at the funeral home. Karen Sue was born on October 12, 1949 in Blue Mound, IL, the daughter of the late Frank T. and Emma M. (Sunderland) Edwards. She happily married Darrell W. Barnes on September 7, 1991 in Mattoon, IL; he survives. Other survivors include six children: Eric J. Cripe and wife Lisa of Fort Worth, TX, Dawn R. Peadro and husband Gary of Windsor, IL, Curtis E. Cripe of Mattoon, IL, Jeremy W. Barnes and wife Stephanie of Champaign, IL, Shannon R. Prather (Barnes) of Mattoon, IL, Justin L. Barnes of Pana, IL; twelve grandchildren: Savannah, Andrea, Bradley, Nathaniel, Tanner, Haven, Jocelyn, Tayelor, Justin, Logan, Ariyah, Brooklynn; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Harry Edwards and wife Carol of Blue Mound, IL; two sisters ,Vonnie Beavers of Springfield, IL, Mary Box of Springfield, IL. She is preceded in death by one grandchild, Camie Rayann Cripe, one brother, and seven sisters. Karen was a retired caregiver. She enjoyed riding motorcycles, traveling, and visiting her family in Texas. She adored her family and cherished the time spent with her husband, children, and grandchildren. Karen will be lovingly remembered and will be greatly missed. Memorials in her honor may be made to American Cancer Society, 675 E. Linton Avenue, Springfield, IL 62703.
