    Charles "Chuck" Jordan

    July 14, 1934 - August 23, 2009

    Charles 'Chuck' F. Jordan\r\n\r\nMattoon, IL-Charles 'Chuck' F. Jordan, age 75, of Mattoon, IL, passed away at 4:21 p.m., Sunday, August 23, 2009, at his residence.\r\nThe funeral service in his honor will begin at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, August 27, 2009, at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938, with Reverend Greg Sexton officiating. Interment will be in Zion Hill Cemetery, rural Coles County. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5:00-8:00 p.m., also at the funeral home. \r\nMr. Jordan was born July 14, 1934, in Patmos, Arkansas, to Melvin F. and Bernice (Shepard) Jordan. He married Betty L. Harris on August 14, 1954, in Mattoon, IL. She survives. Other survivors include two children, Greg A. Jordan and wife Tammy of Mattoon, IL, and Kevin D. Jordan and wife Cathy of Springfield, IL; one brother, James B. Jordan and wife Josephine of Arlington, TX; six sisters, Althea M. McIntosh of Ft. Worth, TX, Dr. Shirley Hamlin of Decatur, TX, Melva G. Kates and husband Jimmy of Ft. Worth, TX, Betty J. Bickers of Keller, TX, Janice K. Hudec and husband Robert of Ardmore, OK, and Jaclyn Watson and husband Steve of Eatonville, WA; a niece, Dorene A. Jordan of Austin TX who was raised by Chuck and Betty Jordan; several nieces and nephews; five grandchildren, Angel, Tyler, Austin, Aarron, and Alyssa Jordan; and 4 great grandchildren, Ivy, Elizabeth, McKenzie, and Whitney Jordan. He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin F. Jordan; two sons, Jeffrey L. Jordan and Douglas K. Jordan; one brother, Melvin D. Jordan; one sister, Pansy M. Pierson; and two grandchildren, Aimee Jo Jordan and Brooke A. Jordan.\r\nMr. Jordan had been a conductor for the Illinois Central Railroad for 44 years. He was a member of the United Transportation Union and the Mattoon Moose Lodge. Always willing to help others, if Chuck was not lending a hand to a friend, he kept himself busy tinkering with wood, mechanics, and electrical projects. He enjoyed socializing with friends and family and was an avid supporter of the activities of his children, grandchildren, and even great grandchildren.\r\nPlease visit www.mitchell-jerdan.com to light a virtual candle or share a memory with his family.\r\n
