Catherine E. Beachey

Catherine E. Beachey, age 94 of Mattoon, IL passed away at 6:05 PM, Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, IL. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 4, 2020 at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Mattoon, IL; Reverend Matthew Froeschle will officiate. Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938 is in charge of services. Catherine was born on June 11, 1925 in Metcalf, IL the daughter of the late Clarence and Maude M. (Hotz) Carlyle. She married Jacob J. Beachey on April 6, 1946 in Mattoon, IL; he preceded her in death on August 23, 1992. She is survived by three children, Martha McCoskey of Longview, IL, Bob Beachey and wife Linda of Crossville, TN, and Judy Pennefather of Mattoon, IL; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. She is preceded in death by one brother, Robert Carlyle; two sons-in-law, David McCoskey and Don Pennefather. Catherine was a skilled supervisor for Mattoon Garment Company for many years. She was a woman of faith and a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church. She was a belonged to Mattoon Eagles Lodge and former member Mattoon Moose Lodge 803. Catherine had many talents and took pride in crocheting, sewing, knitting, and quilting beautiful handstitched blankets that she gifted to her loved ones throughout the years. She was an outstanding cook, known for the best tomato gravy, three-gallon cookies, multiple pies, raspberry dumplings and her famous cinnamon rolls. Above all, she treasured the times spent with all her friends and family and looked forward to their yearly Amish reunions. Catherine touched the lives of many and her memory will live on.
