Billy Ray Gibbs

Billy Ray Gibbs, age 85 of Mattoon, IL passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, IL. A private family service will take place at a later date with a burial at Hillcrest Cemetery in Centralia, IL. Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, located at 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938 is in charge of arrangements. Billy was born on March 19, 1937, in Cornwall, MO to the late Frank G. Audrey M. (Forsythe) Gibbs. He married Iris Ward on March 23, 1958, in Wewahitchka, FL; she passed away on July 26,2011. He is survived by his two daughters, Elizabeth I. Coble of Mattoon, IL, Lisha M. Storment and husband Kevin of Salem, IL, three grandchildren, Shannon Middleton of Lawrence, KA, Alec and Aaron Storment of Panama City, FL; two brothers, Gary Covington of Fredericktown, MO, Larry Covington of Poplar Bluff, MO. He was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Kathleen Gibbs; three brothers, Steve Covington, Maurice Gibbs, Keith Gibbs; and one sister, Carolyn Head. Mr. Gibbs honorably served our country as a Master Sargent for United States Air Force for over twenty years. He was a member of The Assembly of God Church, loved being outdoors, listening to country and gospel music, and spending time with his family.
