    September 1, 2028 - May 25, 2007

    Betty Jean Janes, 78, of Mattoon passed away at 3:25 p.m. Friday, May 25, 2007 at her residence.\r\n\r\nServices celebrating her life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home in Mattoon, with Pastors Calvin Holdren and Don Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.\r\n\r\nShe was born September 1, 1928 in Trenton, Nebraska, the daughter of the late Edward Madison Clark and the late Fannie (Cemer) Clark. She married A. Donald Janes on April 8, 1947 in Mattoon. He preceded her in death September 4, 1982.\r\n\r\nSurvivors include two sons, Don C. Janes of Lake Mattoon, and Brian D. (Betty J.) Janes of Mattoon; a daughter, Jo Lynn (Gary) Grafton of Mattoon; four grandchildren, Donald Janes of Lake Mattoon, Kristen Janes of Lake Mattoon, Zachary (Amy) Grafton of Ft. Riley, Kansas, and Andrew Grafton of Mattoon; three step-grandchildren, Sean (Kristin) Jenkins of Urbana, Dustin (Brenda Weber) Jenkins of Sullivan, and Corey (Chastity) Jenkins of Findlay; three great-grandchildren, Dalton Gebhardt, Tayler Gebhardt, and Chayton Sanders; and five step-great-grandchildren, Dakota Hill, Katelyn Hill, Mackenzie Hill, Tyler Jenkins, and C.J. Sweeney. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Glen Clark and Charley Clark, and a daughter-in-law, Carol Janes.\r\n\r\nMrs. Janes moved to Mattoon from Nebraska in 1943, and graduated from Mattoon High School in 1945. She was an active member of Faith Baptist Church of Mattoon since 1944, serving in numerous capacities including Sunday School teacher, Deaconess, Choir member, Sunday School Superintendent, and in the AWANA youth program. She worked as a receiving clerk for the Meis and Elder Beerman Department Stores for several years.\r\n\r\nFor those who wish, the family suggests memorials to Faith Baptist Church or to Relay For Life of Coles County.
