Willam "BIll" A. Wright

Mattoon, IL-William 'Bill' A. Wright, age 88, of Mattoon, IL, passed away at 8:12 a.m., Thursday, September 04, 2014, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center. \r\n \r\nA memorial service in his honor will begin at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, September 6, 2014, at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938, with Robert Wakeland officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m., until the service begins. \r\n\r\nBorn April 4, 1926, in Indianapolis, IN, Bill was the son of Harris and Ella Wright. He married Shirley Joyce Lohrman on July 3, 1948, in Indianapolis, IN. They celebrated forty-four years of marriage before she passed away on January 13, 1993. He later met Marianne Getz who became his partner in life and love. He is survived by his beloved Marianne of Mattoon, IL; four children, Shirl Lee Wright of Mattoon, IL, Nancy Ann Wright of Mattoon, IL, William Robert 'Bob' Wright of Mattoon, IL, and Thomas Ernest Wright and wife Vicky of Mattoon, IL; four grandchildren, Holly Pucheta and husband Domingo of Charleston, IL, William Thomas Wright and wife Jessica of Ft. Knox, KY, Deanna Wright of Joliet, IL, and William Christopher Wright of Iowa City, IA; five great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Grant, Emilio Pucheta, Sofia Pucheta, Vinny Peacock, and Willow Wright; one niece, Jane Wakeland and husband Robert of Greenfield, IN; two great-nieces, Jera Lee of Chicago, IL and Angie Lee of Martinsville, IN. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Geraldine Alford.\r\n \r\nMr. Wright served our country with the Army Air Corps during World War II, and the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. In 1968, he came to Mattoon to join his former partner at the Checkley Agency. He later ran Wrights Feed Store and was a former owner of Checker Top Cab Company. From 1993-1996, he served as City Commissioner.
