Mattoon, IL-Wilbert 'Bill' Brand, age 87, of Mattoon, IL passed away at 7:40 PM on February 15, 2008 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, IL.\r\n\r\nFuneral Services celebrating his life will begin at 10:00 AM Thursday, February 21, 2008 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Rev. Dennis Kollross officiating. Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Mattoon, IL with Military Rites being conducted at the graveside by VFW Post 4325 of Mattoon, IL. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 20, 2008 from 5:00-8:00 PM at the Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Ave., Mattoon, IL 61938.\r\n\r\nBill was born January 31, 1921 in Breese, IL, the son of Herman and Catherine (Homann) Brand. He married Sara H. Fellows November 27, 1947 in Neoga, IL.\r\n\r\nSurvivors include his loving wife Sara Brand of Mattoon, IL; five children, Mary Sheehan and her husband Jerry of Mattoon, IL, Ruth Cyr and her husband Michael of Charleston, IL, William Brand and his wife Mary Ann of Mattoon, IL, Joan Hoenes and her husband Brian of Mattoon, IL, Michael D. Brand and his wife Donica of Mattoon, IL; twelve grandchildren, Kristen Watson and her husband John of Mattoon, IL, Jennifer Wells and her husband Craig of Savoy, IL, Rachel Cyr of Eagle, ID, Eric Cyr and his wife Kristy of Republic, MO, Clint Hoenes of Mattoon, IL, Nora Hoenes of Mattoon, IL, Sara Hoenes of Champaign, IL, Lana Hoenes of Mattoon, IL, Kara Brand of Mattoon, IL, Michael J. Brand of Mattoon, IL, Gena Brand of Mattoon, IL, Marlee Brand of Mattoon, IL; six great-grandchildren, Luke Watson of Mattoon, IL, Emily Watson of Mattoon, IL, Jacob Watson of Mattoon, IL, Makenna Cyr of Republic, MO, Justin Cyr of Republic, MO and Corbin Wells of Savoy, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents Herman and Catherine (Homann) Brand; one daughter, Martha Roderick; one son-in-law, Fred Roderick; one brother, Gerhard H. 'George' Brand ;and one sister-in-law Margaret O. (Morgan) Brand.\r\n\r\nMr. Brand proudly served his country from 1942-1946 in the United States Air Force. In addition, he was a civil service employee of Eastern Illinois; retiring in 1983.\r\n\r\nBill was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mattoon, IL, member and Past Worthy Chaplain of Eagles Lodge Aeie 3438 of Mattoon, IL, American Legion Post 88 of Mattoon, IL and Moose Lodge 803 of Mattoon, IL.\r\n\r\nBill was an avid gardener, enjoyed reading and had a passion for winemaking and cooking, always trying new recipes. He loved spending time visiting with friends at local clubs.
