Trudie Ann Hahn

Trudie Ann (Knapp) Hahn went to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, August 26, 2026, after a battle with unknown ongoing health conditions. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, September 15,2026 at Broadway Christian Church, 1205 S. 9th Street, Mattoon, IL 61938; Dr. Ian Stamps will officiate. A visitation will be held from 1:00 pm until the time of service at the church. Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, located at 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938 is assisting the family with services. Trudie was born March 22,1951 in Gary, Indiana. Her mother Florence, her brother Wally and she had a difficult beginning. They found their foundation when Florence married Irvin Knapp. Later, their family tripled in size when Irvin adopted Trudie and Wally on the same day their sister Sandy was born. The new family settled in Francesville, Indiana. After graduating High School in 1969 Trudie attended South Bend Memorial School of Nursing. There she met and made friends with Nancy who later introduced Trudie to her brother Harold. At Harold and Trudie’s first date at the dirt track races Trudie was not sure that stoic Harold was enjoying himself, but she was determined to have fun anyway. This date was the beginning of a series of letters while Trudie continued her studies and Harold returned to his duty in Germany and later Vietnam. Through these letters their interest grew into affection, then friendship, and then eventually deep love. Harold and Trudie were married June 9, 1972. They would both say the beginning was rocky but they were committed to seeing it through. The next couple of years saw many changes. First the birth of their son Mark then 17 months later their daughter Mindy. In this time the best change of their life happened when both Harold and Trudie accepted Jesus as their Lord. Trudie always worked hard to balance the demands of being a full- time nurse and mom. She did everything she could to ensure her house was full of love and care for her family. Due to an auto accident over 40 years ago and complications from that accident, Trudie lived with chronic pain. She refused to let it stop her from caring for her family and being committed to her career. During her 44 years as a nurse Trudie worked for many different units except pediatrics. She said she could never stick babies with needles. Later in her career she also worked visiting nursing and nursing homes. Trudie truly found her niche in hospice care. Her heart and care for not only those in their final days but also their families showed her love of people who are hurting and the abundance of Christ’s love. Trudie retired from Sarah Bush Lincoln Hospital in Mattoon, Illinois in 2016. Trudie had an undeterrable love of crafting and thrifting. She had great skill in quilting and cross stitch. One of her quilts even won an award in an Amish quilting contest. She shared her love of crafting with everyone she met, and it opened the door to many relationships and friendships. Recently Trudie’s body began to fail her in many ways. She has battled some diagnosed and some unknown ongoing issues. She tried to maintain her independence but as time went on that freedom was eroding slowly. The evening of August 26,2026 after having a couple of spells with her body fighting against Her, Trudie and Harold enjoyed dinner and a movie. As the movie ended with the main character finding his faith and reconciling with God, Trudie slipped from this earth as well. Trudie is survived by her husband of 54 years Harold, Mark (son) and Patty (daughter- in-law) Hahn, Mindy (daughter) and Toby (son-in-law) Bryant, her grandkids Tyler and Trinity (granddaughter-in-law) Bryant, Elijah Hahn, Hannah Bryant and Gideon Hahn. Trudie also has two great grandkids, Braxtynn Bryant and another one on the way. She is also survived by Wally (brother) and Marlene (sister-in-law) Knapp, Sandi Knapp (sister), and several nieces and nephews. Trudie was preceded in death by her parents Irvin (father) and Florence (mother) Knapp, grandparents, many aunts and uncles.
