Thomas Earl Miller, Jr.\r\nMattoon, IL-Thomas 'Tom' Earl Miller, Jr., age 84, of Mattoon, IL, passed away at 5:00 p.m., April 19, 2010, at his residence in Mattoon, IL. \r\nThe funeral service in his honor will begin at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 23, 2010, at the First Presbyterian Church of Mattoon, IL, with Reverend Art Woolverton officiating. Interment will be in Dodge Grove Cemetery with military rites conducted by Mattoon VFW Post 4325. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5:00-8:00 p.m., at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL, 61938. \r\nMr. Miller was born July 22, 1925, in Indianapolis, IN, the son of Thomas Earl, Sr., and Bertha Kay (Whitney) Miller. He married Rachel 'Rae' (Espenlaub) Miller on May 31, 1947 in Evansville, IN. She survives. Other survivors include two children, Jeffrey Allen Miller and wife Alejandra of Aguascalientes, Mexico, and Judith Rae Looby and husband John of Charleston, IL; three sisters, Carolyn Crossland of Indianapolis, IN, Phyllis Logsdon of Seffner, FL, and Evelyn Fulkerson of Greenfield, IN; four grandchildren, Kimberly Looby of Charleston, IL; Kevin Looby of Charleston, IL; and Lua Stump and husband Ryan of Aguascalientes, Mexico; and Nabil Bueno of Aguascalientes, Mexico; and three great grandchildren, Danel, Kira, and Heli. Both parents preceded him in death.\r\nMr. Miller served our country with the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean War, obtaining rank of Petty Officer 1st Class. He was a former partner in the Checkley Insurance Agency in Mattoon, IL and a member and Elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Mattoon, IL. He was a past president of the Mattoon Chamber of Commerce, a 30 year board member of the Okaw Savings and Loan, and a member of the Mattoon Golf and Country Club and Mattoon Little Theater. \r\nMemorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 10 Charleston Avenue, Mattoon, IL; American Diabetes Association, P.O.
