Susan Rosa McCave

Susan Rosa McCave, age 68 of Mattoon, IL passed away on Monday, June 29, 2026, at her residence. A funeral service in her honor will be held at 12:00 PM, Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938. Mark Marshall will officiate. The visitation will be held from 10:00 am to the time of service at the funeral home. Susan was born on January 21, 1958, in Little Rock, AR to the late Harry C. and Phyllis M. (Andrews) Marshall. She married John McCave in Seward, NE; he survives and resides in Mattoon, IL. She is also survived by her daughter, Linda K. Fitzpatrick and husband Greg of Mattoon, IL; three stepchildren: Darrell L. McCave and wife Charlotte of Lincoln, NE, John A. McCave Jr. of Lincoln, NE, Jamie A. McCave of Lincoln, NE; two brothers, Les Matthews and wife Heidi of Paxton, IL, Mark Marshall and wife Rita of Bloomington, IL; one sister, Patricia Donahue of Paxton, IL; six grandchildren: Stephanie King and husband Christian of Gays, IL, Brittany Fitzpatrick and significant other, Cortez Campell Sr. of Mattoon, IL, Bryan Fitzpatrick and fiancé Tabitha Landers of Cooks Mills, IL, Megan Fitzpatrick and significant other Britton Wilson of Mattoon, IL, Alex Fitzpatrick of Mattoon, IL, Willow Gray of Mattoon, IL; several step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren: Jaiden, Ali, and Brantley King, Conner Winkleblack, Cortez Campbell Jr., Ayla Wilson, Raelynn, Mason, and Eleanor Fitzpatrick; and several step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one stepson, Jeffrey A. McCave; and one brother-in-law, Buddy Donahue. Susan enjoyed the simple pleasures in life and found happiness in staying busy. She loved gardening, spending time outdoors, taking walks, and watching the squirrels in her yard. She also had a special place in her heart for her beloved cat. She cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her endless joy. In her quieter moments, Susan enjoyed writing stories and keeping food journals, as well as watching Criminal Minds, horror and paranormal shows, and relaxing with a good puzzle. Susan will be remembered for her kind heart, her love of family, and her appreciation for life's simple joys. She leaves behind many cherished memories that will continue to bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
