Roland Stanley Jedlick

Roland Stanley Jedlick, age 83 of Mattoon, IL passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2024, at Accolade Healthcare of Paxton on Pells in Paxton, IL. A funeral service in his honor will be held at 12:00 PM, Thursday, November 14, 2024, at First Southern Baptist Church, 3521 Dewitt Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938. Reverend Dr. John Calio will officiate. A committal service will immediately follow at Dodge Grove Cemetery in Mattoon, IL. The visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the church. Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938 is in charge of services. Roland was born on May 2, 1941, in New Lenox, IL to the late Roland and Christine (Lekotos) Jedlick. He married Mary “Ruth” (Stoud) Holt on January 8, 1994, in Mattoon, IL; she preceded him in death on August 17, 2024. He is survived by his son, Daniel R. Jedlick of Champaign, IL; his daughter, Deborah C Berson and husband Peter of Westford, MA; his stepdaughter, Amanda R. Smart and husband Franklin of Brazil, IN; two sisters, Sharon Peterson and husband John of Sacramento, CA, Judy Borger and husband Jim of Pontiac, IL; the mother of his children, Emily A. Jedlick of Champaign,IL; five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Roland was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Mattoon, IL. He attended the Moody Bible College of Chicago, IL, and later earned his Bachelor of Arts in History from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL, and received his Master of Divinity from NorthPark Seminary in Chicago, IL. He served as a United Methodist Minister in several churches throughout the Midwest for twenty-five years. In addition, he was employed with Modern Woodmen of America as an insurance salesman for twenty-five years. He also worked as a teacher’s assistant for students with special needs. Always up for an adventure, Roland enjoyed traveling with his wife, Ruth. They enjoyed exploring Hawaii, Alaska, Cape Cod, Washington D.C., Rhode Island, and Columbia, South America. He was a diehard Cubs fan and had the pleasure of attending the Chicago Cubs Fantasy Camp in 1986. He enjoyed fishing and vegetable gardening. Resolved to take a stand in the fight against cancer, Roland participated in the American Cancer Society Cancer Walk/Run for several years. Jesus and family were at his core, he took pleasure in serving the Lord and cherished every moment spent with his children and grandchildren.
