Robert “Bob” Henry Frank Jr., 69, of Mattoon passed away April 15, 2025, in Alamogordo, NM. A visitation will be held for family and friends from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM, Friday, May 30,2025 at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938. Military Rites will be performed by Mattoon VFW Post 4325 at 4:45 PM. The family will celebrate Bob’s love for the outdoors by hiking at Fox Ridge State Park on Saturday May 31,2025, meeting at 10:30 AM at the main pavilion. Bob was born on January 25,1956 in Mattoon, IL son of the late Robert and Doris (Clark) Frank. He is survived by his daughter, Stacie Harty and husband Kelly; his sons, Robert “Bobby” Frank III and wife Tatiana, and Gregory Frank and wife Brittany; one grandson, Christian; three granddaughters, Ruby, Nora, Maya; four brothers, Dirk Frank and wife Abbie, Todd Frank and wife Angie, Tony Frank, Shawn Frank and wife Wendy; one sister Tammy Aikman and husband Kevin; and his aunt, Sharon (Clark) Balch. He is preceded in death by two brothers, Adam and Mike Frank; two sisters, Debbie Frank and Renee Hradek. Growing up, he participated in sports and Boy Scouts, earning Eagle Scout. After graduating from Mattoon High School in 1974, Bob joined the U.S. Naval Forces as a Communication Security Technician for the USS Decatur destroyer. While in the navy, he spent time overseas taking in various cultures and scenery. Bob was proud to have followed in his father’s footsteps in service of the United States of America, just like his sons, Bobby and Gregory, were honored to follow his. Bob was awarded the Navy Exemplary Medal and Humanitarian Services Medal. After his time in the navy, Bob married, started a family, and worked for many years in nuclear power plants located in Michigan, California, and Clinton, IL. Bob shared his love of travel and nature with his family. They took road trips to U.S. National Parks, camping, fishing, and hiking. In his 40s, Bob hiked a large portion of the Pacific Crest Trail. He also enjoyed reading, searching for arrowheads, and researching genealogy. In 2018, Bob retired but continued to travel and enjoy time with family. After eating meals prepared by his former wife Dianne, Bob was known to say, “Hit the spot, sleep good tonight”. Sleep well, Bob- your family will forever miss you.
