Mr. John B. Riney

John B. Riney, 74, of Mattoon, died at 8:55 a.m., Sunday, April 14, 2013, in Mattoon Health Care and Rehabilitation Center. \r\n\r\nFuneral Services celebrating his life will be privately held at a later date. The family has entrusted Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, with arrangements. \r\n\r\nJohn was born on March 4, 1939, in Trumann, Arkansas. He was the son of Leo and Jennie (Courtney) Riney. On March 9, 1968 he married his wife of 45 years, Darlene McLain. She survives. \r\n\r\nAlong with his devoted wife, Darlene, he is survived by his two sons: Jamie Riney, and his wife Mary, of Virginia Beach, VA, and Joseph Riney of Mt. Pleasant, IA. He is also leaves behind seven brothers: Albert Riney of Osceola, AR; Joseph Riney of Osceola, AR; Richard Riney of Bowling Green, KY; Sam Riney of Osceola, AR; Mike Riney of Louisville, KY; Ralph Riney of Sherwood, AR; and Roger Riney of Manilla, AR. Also surviving are his four sisters: Norma Lee of Malden, MO; Pat Hedges of Russellville, KY; Joyce Harris of Jackson, MO; and Jeanette Walker of Osceola, AR. He leaves behind two grandchildren, Joseph William Riney and Daphanie Riney, both of Dallas, TX; Two Aunts; One Uncle; and many nieces and nephews.\r\n\r\nMr. Riney was preceded in death by his parents.\r\n\r\nJohn was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. In addition to working for Blaw Knox, in Mattoon, IL, he was dedicated to his work as an Aviation Metalsmith during his time in the service. He received a letter of commendation from his commanding officer congratulating him on his mechanical expertise and tireless perseverance in aviation. He also received a citation from Rear Admiral Tazewell Shepard, who boasted of John's 'exceptional professional competence, meticulous attention to detail, and a large measure of ingenuity in his duties' and 'directly contributed to the accomplishment of a mission which was of vital interest to national security.' John was truly one of a kind amongst his many siblings, and he will be dearly missed by all those whose hearts he touched.\r\n\r\nMemorials may be made in his honor to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
