Mary Lou Myers-Gatewood

Mary Lou Myers-Gatewood, age 95, of Mattoon, IL, passed away at 1:20 p.m., Monday, November 26, 2012, at Mattoon Health Care. \r\n\r\nAccording to her wishes, cremation will take place and private inurnment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens. A memorial celebration to honor her life will be held at a later date. \r\n\r\nBorn October 28, 1917 in Mt. Carmel, Illinois, Mary Lou was the daughter of Robert J. and Pauline F. (Goings) Beimforde. She married Richard P. Myers on April 8, 1944 in San Antonio, Texas. He preceded her in death in September of 1985. She later married Leland 'Dude' Gatewood on June 11, 1990. He preceded her in death in August of 1999. \r\n\r\nSurvivors include two children, Mindy Orr, and her husband Bob, of Mattoon, and Douglas Myers and Patricia Kneller, of Marietta, Georgia; seven grandchildren: Allison (Orr) Thomas of Miami, Florida; Ryan Orr and his wife Laura of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; MacKenzie (Myers)Sheahan and her husband Mitchell of Shepherd, Michigan; Mallory Myers of Jacksonville, Florida; Matthew Myers of Kalamazoo, Michigan; Bobby Orr and his wife Tanya of O'Fallon, Missouri; and Julie Crawford and her husband Brent of Germantown, Tennessee; six great-grandchildren: Kaley and Aiden Sheahan of Shepherd, Mississippi; Logan and Lexi Gaddy of Germantown, Tennessee; and Cody and Lauren Orr of O' Fallon, Missouri. \r\n\r\nMrs. Myers-Gatewood was preceded in death by two husbands; her parents; an infant son, Robert 'Skipper' Willson Myers; and one half-brother, Robert Beimforde.\r\n\r\nMary Lou was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Mattoon. She had earned an accounting degree through Utterback Business College and was formerly employed with General Electric in Mattoon as a payroll clerk. In addition to being a member of Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center's Hospital Guild, she enjoyed belonging to numerous Bridge clubs and was a member of the Ladies of the Elks Club in Mattoon. She loved spending her time shopping, vacationing, and playing cards with her many friends. Mary Lou cherished her family and was affectionately known as 'Mimi' to her grandchildren and friends. She was a very kind and generous person who will be deeply missed. \r\n \r\nMemorials in her honor may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.\r\n
