Mary Elizabeth “Mary Beth” Coffey, age 84 of Mattoon, IL passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center. A funeral Mass in her honor will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, April 18, 2026, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 320 N 21st Street, Mattoon, IL 61938. A visitation will be held from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM, Friday, April 17, 2026, at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938. Mary Beth was born on January 4, 1942, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of the late Anthony J. and Genevieve C. (Burtschi) Grobelny. She married the love of her life, Gerald “Jerry” Deny Coffey on August 10, 1963, in Mattoon; he survives and resides in Mattoon. She is also survived by her three sons: Anthony “Tony” Coffey Sr. of Mattoon, IL, Christopher “Todd” Coffey and significant other Kate Cleary of Buda, TX, Kenneth “Dewey” Coffey and wife Katie of Mattoon, IL; six grandchildren: Tony Coffey of Grand Rapids, MI, Cole Coffey and fiancé Kaylie Potts of New Braunfels, TX, Rayna Coffey fiancé Dustin Weber of Louisiana, Bella Coffey and fiancé Jack Tucker of Warsaw, IN, Drew Coffey and significant other Jenna Minor of Davenport, IA; three great-grandchildren: Zoey Coffey of Grand Rapids, MI, Leighton and Kavik Weber of Louisiana. She was preceded in death by one brother, Bishop David Grobelny. A faithful and devoted member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mattoon, Illinois, Mary Beth lived her life grounded in the Catholic faith and found great comfort in watching the Catholic Channel on television. As the proud owner and operator of Burtschi Gift Shop in Mattoon and a former member of the Mattoon Golf and Country Club, she built many meaningful friendships throughout her life. Mary Beth found great joy in shopping, traveling to South Carolina with her beloved husband, Jerry, and spending treasured time with her grandchildren at the beach and pool. Attending her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and activities brought her immense pride and happiness, and she never missed an opportunity to cheer them on. She cherished the companionship of her dear friends, but above all, her greatest love and joy in life was her family. Mary Beth will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for her kind heart, unwavering faith, and the warmth and love she shared so freely with everyone blessed to know her.
