Mattoon, IL-Marvin Janes, age 83, of Mattoon, IL, passed away at 9:10 a.m., Tuesday, September 8, 2009, at the Odd Fellow Rebekah Home in Mattoon, IL. \r\nThe funeral service in his honor will begin at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 11, 2009 at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938, with Reverend Mike Snow officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the Mattoon VFW Post 4325. Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home.\r\nMr. Janes was born March 20, 1926, in Cooks Mills, IL, the son of Frances Lee and Grace (Rowley) Janes. He married Roumaine Hamilton on June 15, 1951 in Shumway, IL. She survives. Other survivors include their children, John F. Janes and wife Linda of Mattoon, IL, Jerry D. Janes and wife Kim of Oswego, IL, Jody D. Janes of St. Joseph, IL, and Judy D. (Janes) Starwalt of Mattoon, IL; a brother, Jesse Janes and wife Mona of Mattoon, IL; two sisters , Neva Gordon of Peoria, IL and Jennie Wright and husband Leon of Mattoon,IL; four grandchildren, Mark Janes of Charleston, IL, Andrea Janes of Morton, IL, Macy Starwalt of Mattoon, IL, and Connor Janes of St. Joseph, IL; one great-grandchild, Haley Mifflin of Mattoon, IL , and a grandpuppy, Sophie. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lee and Don; and three sisters, Faye, Evelyn, and Myrna.\r\nMr. Janes served our country with the United States Army during World War II. He was a retired employee of the Illinois Central Railroad. He was a member of the American Legion of Mattoon, IL, and the United Transportation Union. \r\nMarvin enjoyed spending time outdoors camping, fishing, hunting. He was also a fan of old westerns, especially those starring John Wayne. Being devoted to his family, Marvin's wife and children, and then later grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of his life and he cherished time spent with them more than anything. \r\nMemorials may be made to Lincoln Land Hospice, 700 Broadway Avenue East, Suite, 9, Mattoon, IL 61938.
