Marjorie Jean West

Marjorie Jean West, age 73 of Charleston, IL, passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center. A funeral service in her honor will be held at 12:00 PM, Friday, May 15, 2026, at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938. Reverend Dave Dolan will officiate. A committal service will immediately follow at Dodge Grove Cemetery in Mattoon, IL. The visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home. Marjorie was born on August 15, 1952, in Mattoon, IL to the late Harlan D. and Viola L. (Brown) Hopgood Sr. She married Mark West Sr. She is survived by her three children: Amanda Hopgood of Mattoon, IL, Natasha Hopgood and fiancé Curtis Smith Sr. of Chicago, IL, and Mark Anthony West Jr. and fiancée Dorothy Eggers of Mattoon, IL; ; four brothers: Bruce Hopgood Sr. of Bloomington, IL, Harlan Hopgood Jr. and wife Becky of Mattoon, IL, Harold Hopgood and wife Debra of Charleston, IL, Brian Hopgood of Mattoon, IL; one sister, Laura Hopgood of Mattoon, IL; nine grandchildren: Chance Evans, Amaru Evans, Tishawn Thompson, Jaquese McCarty, Keymahri Hopgood, JaVahri McCarty, Nova West, Xavier West, Kai Legend; one step grandson, Curtis Smith Jr; one great-grandchild, Mai’lanni Liberty Evans. She was preceded in death by one son, Roy West and one sister, Patricia Hopgood. Marjorie lived a life defined by faith, kindness, and devotion. She worked for a time at RR Donnelley and was a longtime member of New Life Church in Sullivan, Illinois, where she was baptized in 1998. Marjorie was a true prayer warrior who found great joy in Bible study and reading God’s Word, living out her faith each day with quiet strength and grace. She was a deeply selfless woman who opened her heart and home to others, often reminding those around her, “You never know who you are entertaining.” Her love for gospel music and her unwavering faith were constants in her life, guiding the way she cared for others. Above all, Marjorie cherished her family. She adored her children and grandchildren, who were the center of her world and the greatest joy of her life. Her love, generosity, and steadfast faith will be dearly missed and forever remembered by all who knew her.
