Margaret B. Murphy

Margaret B. Murphy, age 94, of Mattoon, passed away at 4:45 a.m., Monday, April 7, 2008, at Douglas Rehabilitation and Care Center. \r\n\r\nA graveside service in her honor will be held 1:00 p.m., Monday, April 14, 2008, at the Riverside Cemetery, Newton, Illinois with Reverend Greg Sexton officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home. \r\n\r\nMrs. Murphy was born February 27, 1914, in Johnson County, Illinois, the daughter of William and Lula E. (Davis) Penrod. She married Charles H. Harris on February 3, 1931, in Newton, Illinois. He passed away in 1947. She later married James R. Murphy in Mattoon. He preceded her in death in 1979. She is survived by her children: Dee Nichols, Betty Jordan and husband Charles, Donna Metzler, and James Harris and wife Karen, all of Mattoon; a sister, Mary Wyatt of Olney; and grandchildren: Judy Wallace and husband Harold of Humboldt, Gary Nichols and wife Sharon of Mattoon, Rick Nichols and fianc' Angie Werling of Mattoon, Larry Nichols and wife Connie of Mattoon, Tim Nichols of Mattoon, Kevin Jordan and wife Cathy of Springfield, Greg Jordan and wife Tammy of Mattoon, Debra Ankenbrand of Mattoon, Darla Bonic and husband Michael of Mattoon, Wesley Harris and wife Gina of Mattoon, Sean Harris of Mattoon, Brandon Harris of Mattoon, Michael Wilson and significant other, Karen Baker of Mattoon, and Greg Wilson and his wife Pam of Mattoon. She leaves thirty one great grandchildren, and fifteen great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sons, two brothers, one step-brother, two half sisters and six grandchildren. \r\n\r\nMrs. Murphy was formerly a self employed housekeeper and a retired employee of Douglas Rehabilitation and Care Center where she worked as a nurse's aid. She attended the Broadway Christian Church, was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, former member of the Women of the Moose, and bowled on the ladies bowling league for the Moose Lodge of Mattoon. \r\n\r\nMrs. Murphy loved working on word search's, reading, and playing cards. She also enjoyed taking weekend trips and passing her time watching soap operas. \r\n\r\nMemorials may be made to the organization of the donor's choice.
