Mabelle (Snapp) Wooddell, age 98 of Mattoon, IL passed away at 1:28 AM, Friday, January 19, 2024, at Copper Creek Cottages in Mattoon, IL. A funeral service in her honor will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938. Reverend Ron Dickinson will officiate. A committal service will immediately follow at Dodge Grove Cemetery in Mattoon, IL. The visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Monday evening, January 22, 2024, at the funeral home. Mabelle was born July 8, 1925, to the late Albert and Ethel (Shriver) Hull. She married William “Bill” Snapp on August 1, 1947, in Mattoon, IL; he preceded her in death April 22, 1994. She later married Ken L. Wooddell Sr. on November 23, 1996, in Mattoon, IL; he preceded her in death September 15, 2023. She is survived by her four children: Mike Snapp and wife Maria of New Orleans, LA, Lisa Snapp of Henderson, NV, Laura Schneider and husband Roy of Coralville, IA, David Snapp of St. Louis, MO; two stepchildren, Ken Wooddell II and wife Polly of Menomonee Falls, WI, Gary Wooddell and wife Marilyn of The Woodlands, TX; two grandchildren, Trent and Cole Schneider; four step grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Hull. After graduating from Mattoon High School in 1943, Mabelle attended the University of Illinois. For several years she was employed with Exxon Mobil and for an extended time as a librarian at Hawthorne School both in Mattoon, IL. Mabelle was a lifelong member of the Central Community Church in Mattoon, IL and served on many committees. She held memberships with Friends of the Library, Coles County Farm Bureau, YMCA, and Mattoon Golf and Country Club. She was a charter member of Coles County Genealogy Society and Coles County Historical Society. Mabelle was a strong supporter of the Mattoon community which she loved. She was an avid Chicago Cubs Fan. Playing Bridge, tennis, exercising, and attending jazzercise class were activities she thoroughly enjoyed. Beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Mabelle was always a joy to be around with her happy and pleasant demeaner. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
