Linda R. Schilling

Linda R. Schilling, age 79 of Mattoon, IL passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, IL. A funeral service in her honor will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938. Reverend Todd Krost will officiate. A committal service will immediately follow at Dodge Grove Cemetery in Mattoon, IL. The visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home. Linda was born on February 9, 1945, to the late Rionold E. and Annetta T. (Rewerts) Gerdes. She married David R. Schilling on May 2, 1969, in Aplington, IA; he preceded her in death on December 23, 2024. She is survived by one daughter, Tonya Ciulla of Mattoon, IL; four grandchildren: Sierra Coartney and significant other Scott Griffin of Charleston, IL, Sydney Fisher of Urbana, IL, Landon Pearcy of Mattoon, IL; Christopher Ciulla of Rantoul, IL ; three great-granddaughters: Maddie Coartney, and Violet and Phoenix Pearcy; three brothers, Steve Gerdes and wife Amber of Hiawassee, GA, Stan Gerdes and wife Kathleen of Naples, FL, Trent Gerdes and wife Rita of Waterloo, IA. She is preceded in death by her son, Mark Schilling; and son-in-law, Larry Ciulla. Linda was a nurse for forty plus years at Mattoon Memorial Hospital and later Carle Clinic in Mattoon, IL. After she retired, she continued her career in health care as an in-homecare nurse. An active member of the First United Methodist Church in Mattoon, IL for over forty-five years. Mrs. Schilling was a strong pillar within the congregation, devoting her time to Women’s Circle, Bible Study, Ashbury Sunday School Class, FUMC Music Program Choir, and Bell Choir. Also involved within the community, Linda volunteered at One Stop Community Christmas and member of Alpha Epsilon Sorority of Mattoon, IL. Linda, and her beloved husband David, always maintained an active lifestyle. They enjoyed traveling to all fifty states, whether it be touring the country on bus trips or professional outings for their business conventions. They savored their time together and are together again. Above all, she was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and dear friend. But most of all, those close to her will cherish and remember her beaming smile, kindness and generosity.
