Kathleen Gay Thiel LeVeck, MD of Bentleyville, Ohio, formerly of Mattoon, IL passed away on Monday, April 8, 2024, at the age of 75 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. A funeral mass in her honor will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 320 N. 21st Street, Mattoon, IL 61938; a committal service will immediately follow in Calvary Cemetery in Mattoon, IL. The visitation will be Monday evening, April 15, 2024, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938. Kathleen was born in St. Louis, MO on April 12,1948 to the late Stanley William Thiel, MD, and the late Marianne Link Thiel. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Thomas Ransom LeVeck of Bentleyville, OH; son, Damien Thomas LeVeck and wife Natalie Jane LeVeck of Dallas, TX; daughter, Danielle Perrine LeVeck and husband Jonathan Buckley Glaab, MD of Aurora, OH. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Calvin, Steven, and Chloe LeVeck and Roark and Burke Glaab. She was the loyal sister of Andrea “Onnie” Wisotsky (David) of Palm Harbor, FL, Christopher William Thiel, MD (Melanie) of Minneapolis, MN, Stanley Kurt Thiel (Beth) of Colleyville, TX, and Gretchen Ann Thiel of Minneapolis, MN. She cherished her nieces and nephews, Sarah Wisotsky-Hernandez (Ralphy), Colin Thiel, Kristen Dill (Josh) and Stephen Selzler (Kristin), and Michael and Erin Doyle. Kathleen grew up in Mattoon, IL and graduated from Mattoon High School Summa cum laude. After receiving her baccalaureate in French from Indiana University, she attended St. Louis University School of Nursing, earning her nursing degree. Subsequently, she participated in a pioneering program at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital and was awarded one of the first certificates as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. St. Louis University Medical School followed where Kathleen chose the specialty of OB/GYN. She was a life-long caregiver, first as a Registered Nurse and Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, and then as a revered physician. Her compassionate, caring approach endeared her to all her patients. She gave back further by going on several mission trips to Honduras, performing OB/GYN surgeries. She was a gourmet cook and baker, a zealous bird watcher and gardener, and throughout the course of her life, she rescued many animals. Her vibrant presence was felt by all who encountered her.
