Helen "Irene" Heil

Helen “Irene” Heil, age 92 of Neoga, IL passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center. A memorial service in her honor will be held at noon, Thursday, June 27, 2024, at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938; Pastor Tim Massengill will officiate. A committal service will immediately follow in Calvary Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home. Irene was born on May 1, 1932, in Mattoon, IL to the late David L. and Margaret A. (Sheehan) Cisna. She married Clarence W. Bryant and later married Karl Heil in 1976; he preceded her death on September 29, 1997. She is survived by two children, Barbara A. Harper and husband Kenneth of Mattoon, IL, James E. Bryant of Neoga, IL; one stepson, Ira Bryant and wife Chris; seven grandchildren: Angela, Christopher, Jacob Harper, David Cavazos and wife Amanda, Wendy Cavazos, Johnathan Rodriguez, Skyler Bryant; one step grandchild, Brandon Bryant and wife Ashley; six great-grandchildren: Ashley Harper, Alex Bantana, Austin and Logan Cavazos, Gabby Hernandez, Audrejohna Bryant; two step great-grandchildren, Brooks and Brock Bryant; and two great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by one son, Wendell Bryant; one daughter, Marilyn Rodriguez; and two stepchildren, Billy Bryant and Cathy Miller. Passionate about her career as a registered nurse, Irene was working into her nineties. In her later years, she enjoyed teaching classes to residents at various local nursing homes. Always one to keep busy and stay in fantastic health, Irene was the oldest member of her Tae Kwan Do class and enjoyed doing research on health foods and vitamins. She was a member of Free Methodist Church in Neoga, IL where she was actively involved in her bible studies. Irene was a devoted mother, grandmother, and dear friend to her loved ones. She will be remembered for her positivity and zest for life.
