Harold B. Grisamore

Harold B. Grisamore, age 84, of Mattoon, IL, passed away at 7:06 a.m., Tuesday, November 27, 2012, at Carle Hospital in Urbana. \r\n\r\nThe funeral service in his honor will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 1, 2012, at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938. Pastor Ken Hutchens will officiate. Burial will take place in Dodge Grove Cemetery. Military Rites will be performed by the Mattoon VFW Post #4325. Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m., Friday, November 30, 2012, at the funeral home. Masonic Rites will be held at 4:45 p.m. Friday.\r\n\r\nBorn March 11, 1928, in Toledo, Illinois, Harold was the son of Carl E. and Lorene (Bennett) Grisamore. He married Norma J. Wallace on April 6, 1956, in Mattoon, IL. She survives.\r\n\r\nAlong with Norma, his loving wife of 56 years, Harold is survived by two children: Terry Grisamore and his wife, Brenda of Mattoon, IL; and Sherry Hills and her husband, David, of Naperville, IL; one brother, Wayne Grisamore and his wife, Nancy, of Sun City, AZ; one sister-in-law, Norma M. Grisamore of Mattoon, IL; five grandchildren: Chad Grisamore and his wife, Deb of Mattoon, IL; Ryan Grisamore and his wife, Keegan of Mattoon, IL; Kala Grisamore of Mattoon, IL; Kyle Hills of Naperville, IL; and Kendra Hills of Naperville, IL.; two great granddaughters: Jaelynn Lang of Mattoon, IL, Abby Grisamore of Mattoon, IL; and one niece, Becky Paige of El Mirage, AZ. \r\n\r\nMr. Grisamore was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Darrell Gene Grisamore. \r\n\r\nHarold retired from Blaw-Knox as a supervisor for 34 1/2 years, and he also retired from the Illinois National Guard as a Sergeant Major. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Champion Sunday School Class in Mattoon. He was a life member of the Mattoon Masonic Lodge #260, in addition to being a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason in the Consistory Valley of Danville, IL, and a member of the Ansar Shrine of Springfield, IL. He belonged to the Low Twelve Club, the Order of the Eastern Star, the Corn Belt Shrine Club, Moose Lodge #803, and the American Legion #88. Harold also proudly belonged to the Retired Enlisted Association of the Army, the Illinois National Guard Association as a life member in the 40-8 Voiture #717. In addition to his many memberships, Mr. Grisamore also found time to volunteer with RSVP and hold a membership with the Sarah Bush Hospital Guild, and he was a member of the Sarah Bush Lincoln METS program. He loved to travel, he loved to garden, and he enjoyed spending his free time with his family and friends. He will be sadly missed by the many lives he touched. \r\n\r\nMemorials in his honor may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.\r\n
