Mattoon, IL 'Grace Mary Acton, age 91, of Mattoon, IL, passed away at 12:44 a.m., Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center. \r\nThe memorial service in honor of her life will begin at 12:00 Noon, Saturday, October 2, 2010, at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL, 61938. Reverend Ken Hutchens will officiate. Inurnment will be held at St. Isidore Cemetery, Bethany, IL. Visitation will be held from 11:00-12:00 prior to the service.\r\nMrs. Acton was born in Moultrie County, Illinois, the daughter of James E. and Grace A. (Holston) Sherman. She married Thomas Acton in Decatur, Illinois in 1942. He passed away in 1996. Survivors include three children: Phil Acton and wife Vicki of Collinsville, IL, Greg Acton and wife Rebecca of Ballwin, MO, and Ann L. Jones and husband J.B. of Mt. Prospect, IL; a brother, Thomas E. Sherman of Chagrin Falls, OH; and a sister, Violet Kopp of San Francisco, CA, (passed away September 6, 2010); five grandchildren: Jason C. Acton of Haines City, Florida, Ryan M. Acton of Los Lunas, New Mexico, Elizabeth A Smith of Sherwood, IL, Kimberly A. Jones and husband Bruce of Hollard, Michigan, and Christopher T. Jones of Mt. Prospect, IL; eight great grandchildren: Shelby H. Acton of Haines City, Florida, Carter Acton of Haines City, Florida, Jacob G. Smith of Sherwood, Illinois, Matthew T. Acton of Los Lunas , New Mexico, Samantha K. Montgomery of Holland, Michigan, Thomas M. Jones of Holland, Michigan, Carley N. Jones of Mt. Prospect, Illinois, and Christopher M. Jones of Mt. Prospect, Illinois. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, William Sherman; and two sisters, Helen Diamond Sherman and Geraldine Williams.\r\nMrs. Acton graduated from the St. Johns School of nursing in Springfield, Illinois, and was a registered nurse for Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center until her retirement. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Mary's Circle, Friends of the Mattoon Public Library, former member of the American Nurses Association, and former Region 3 Director of the Illinois Society of Post Anesthesia. \r\nPlease visit www.mitchell-jerdan.com to light a virtual candle in her honor, or share a memory with her family.\r\n
