A memorial service for Gerald L. and Carol D. Englund will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, February 19,2024 at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, located at 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938; Reverend Ron Dickinson will officiate. The burial will be held at a later date in Dodge Grove Cemetery in Mattoon, IL. The visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home. Carol Dian (Cushman) Englund, age 84 of Mattoon, IL was welcomed into heaven and reunited with many of her loved ones on January 26th, 2024. Carol was born on January 30, 1939, and raised in Mode, Illinois. She was the daughter of the late Farrell Dewey and Grace Marie (Wallace) Cushman; she was the youngest of nine children. She married the love of her life, Gerald (Gerry) Luther Englund on October 15, 1961; he preceded her in death on March 13, 2019. She is survived by her two children, Kenneth Farrell Englund and wife Michelle of Mattoon, IL, Kari Kay Englund-Moreton of Troy, IL. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy, Amanda Marie Fonner and husband Ryan of DeSoto, MO, Kaylee Dian Falconio and husband Michael of Vandalia, IL, Alexandria Grace Moreton and Anthony Joseph Moreton, both of Troy, IL. She also has four great-grandchildren, Harrison Knoll Fonner, Lincoln Hudson Fonner, Benjamin Michael-Luther Falconio, and Charlotte Wren Fonner. Carol leaves behind her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, one sister; Billie Keiser of Nokomis, Illinois, several nieces and nephews. Carol was a member of the First Christian Church of Mattoon, IL. She spent the majority of her life as a beautician and a homemaker. She also enjoyed caring for her grandchildren, baking treats for the First Christian Church, working at Byrd’s Dry Cleaners in Mattoon, IL, keeping tabs on Gerry, talking to her sisters on the telephone, and sipping coffee with her neighborhood best friend “Pudsie”. Carols family would like to thank Copper Creek Cottages in Mattoon and Odd Fellow-Rebecca, Harmony Center staff, and Lincolnland Hospice in Mattoon for their continuum of care to Carol over the last several years. Gerald Luther Englund, age 79 of Mattoon, IL passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at Copper Creek Cottages in Mattoon, IL. Gerry was born August 22, 1939 in Shelbyville IL the son of Arnold Carl Englund and Katherine (Pauley) Englund. He married the love of his life Carol Dian Cushman on October 15, 1961. Survivors include his wife of fifty-seven years, Carol of Mattoon, IL; two children, Kenny Englund (Michelle) of Mattoon, and Kari Englund-Moreton of Troy, IL. He had four grandchildren Amanda Marie Fonner (Ryan), Kaylee Dian Englund (Fiancé Michael Falconio), Alexandria Grace Moreton and Anthony Joseph Moreton. He had one great-grandson Harrison Knoll Fonner. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Norviel Englund, and beloved dog, Bo Bo. Gerry was a member of the First Christian Church of Mattoon, where he was a member of the choir. He also sang with the Lakeland Community Choir. Gerry studied at DeVry Institute in Chicago. He worked at Mattoon Heating and Air and Walden’s T.V. and Appliance of Mattoon. Gerry was an avid Cub fan among a family of Cardinal fans. He loved tinkering and making many family treasures in his wood shop. He enjoyed time with his family most of all. Those who knew Gerry were forever changed by his kind nature.
