Geormyn Ida Collings

Mattoon, IL-Geormyn Ida Collings, age 88, of Mattoon, IL, passed away at 6:00 p.m., Monday, July 7, 2014, at her residence.\r\n\r\nThe funeral service in her honor will begin at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL, 61938. Deacon Gene Uptmore will officiate. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:30 p.m., Monday, July 14, 2014, at the funeral home. \r\n\r\nBorn July 6, 1926, in Quincy, IL, Geormyn was the daughter of George H. and Minnie (Peckermeyer) Meyer. She married C. Eddie Collings on November 24, 1949, in Teutopolis, IL. They celebrated 46 years of marriage before he passed away on November 24, 1995. Survivors include six children: Kaye Collings Sims of Windsor, IL; Pam Kessler and husband Kenny of Mattoon, IL; Craig Collings and wife Cyndee of Mohave Valley, AZ; Paul Collings and wife LuAnne of Bowling Green, OH; Tony Collings and wife Angie of Springfield, IL; and Jeff Collings and wife Tracy of Mattoon, IL; one sister: Wilma Reeder of Carrollton, IL; fourteen grandchildren: Chris Kessler and wife Amanda of Arcola, IL; Jason Kessler and wife Megan of Salem, IL; Jamie Smoot of Midlothian, VA; Jennifer and Jessica Collings of Bowling Green, OH; Andrew Collings and fianc' Missy of Princeton, NJ; Laura Collings of Springfield, IL; Cooper, Cayden, and Quincy Collings of Mattoon, IL; David Collings and wife Amber of AZ; and Melissa, Casie, and Tyler Collings of AZ; and fourteen great-grandchildren: Avery and Jacey Kessler of Arcola, IL; Jordan and Brynn Kessler of Salem, IL; Corie Smoot of VA; Adam Iler of Bowling Green, OH; and Jourdan, Jayson, Kayleigh, Bryona, Brandon, Alexavier, Adrianna, and Allison of AZ. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Harold and Russell.\r\nGeormyn worked at Sears in Quincy, IL, until deciding to stay home and raise her family. She served many years as a Lafayette Township election judge and looked forward to election time. \r\n\r\nEven though she was not a member of the Catholic Church, she was very active and supportive in raising her children in their father's Catholic faith. She was a devoted mother who was very supportive of her children's involvement in sports and social activities. \r\n\r\nShe enjoyed traveling with her husband and their friends on convention and bowling trips. An avid Cub's fan, she was a member of the 'DIEHARD CUBS FAN CLUB.' Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting, and doing counted cross stitch and she loved sharing her work with family and friends. \r\n\r\nOne of her greatest enjoyments in life was having her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren visit and spend time with her and following their achievements and activities though pictures and articles in the newspaper.\r\n\r\nIn lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the organization of the donor's choice. \r\n\r\nPlease visit www.mitchell-jerdan.com or www.facebook.com/mitchelljerdanfuneralhome to light a virtual candle in her honor or share a memory with her family. \r\n
