Eula E. Walworth

\r\nMattoon, IL-Eula E. Walworth, age 94, of Mattoon, IL, formerly of Newton, IL, passed away at 3:34 a.m., Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center. \r\n\r\nThe funeral service in her honor will begin at 1:00 p.m., Friday, June 27, 2014, at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938. Reverend John Hegelson will officiate. Interment will be in Dodge Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until the service begins. \r\n \r\nBorn September 29, 1919, in Wayne County, IL, Eula was the daughter of Earl E. and Zelda (Cariens) Barker. She was raised by her grandparents, Aratus and Mary Ellen (Pennington) Cariens. On June 6, 1954, she married Maurice C. Walworth in Fairfield, IL. He passed away March 8, 2011. Survivors include their children, Lisa Walworth with Bradford Booker of Kent, WA; Candace Walworth, PhD, of Boulder, CO; and Carl Walworth and wife Kathie of Mattoon, IL; and two grandchildren, Brody Walworth of Springfield, IL, and Kelli Walworth of Florissant, MO. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Noble and Ivan Barker; and two sisters, Robley and Geneva Barker.\r\n\r\nMrs. Walworth received a bachelor's degree from Eastern Illinois University. She began her career as a teacher with the Fairfield grade school and then taught at elementary schools in Jasper County until her retirement. Traveling, cooking, golfing, and playing Bridge were among her passions. She and her husband enjoyed playing Bridge together and with friends, and both were Life Master Duplicate Bridge players. She was a loyal University of Illinois sports fan. Mrs. Walworth was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Mattoon, IL and the Retired Teachers Association of Jasper County.\r\n\r\nMemorials in her honor may be made to the Mary L.
