Ella Beavers

Mattoon, IL - Ella Beavers, age 94, of Mattoon, IL, passed away at 3:30 p.m., on February 27, 2012, at her residence.\r\n\r\nThe funeral service in her honor will begin at 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 2, 2012, at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938. Reverend Don Roberts will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday evening, at the funeral home. \r\n\r\nElla was born June 30th, 1917 in Coles County, IL and raised on a farm alongside her four sisters and one brother. She drew enormous support from her siblings throughout her life and counted her sisters among her closest friends. She married her husband James on Aug 8th 1943 at the Christian Church in Mattoon Illinois, just prior to his deployment in World War II. The couple then moved to Langley Virginia, followed by Boca Raton, Florida, before settling temporarily in Salina, Kansas, where her twin sons, James and Joseph were born. James and Ella moved their new family back to Mattoon, IL in 1946, where they have since resided. Ella is survived by her husband of 68 years, James Joseph Russell Beavers; her son, James Michael Beavers and wife Phyllis of Brookston, IN; a daughter in law, Judith Beavers of Beach Grove, IN; her five grandchildren, Dawn Beavers, Jennifer Beavers, Mandy Shuette, Kristy Mount, and Michael Beavers; her four great-grandchildren, Ned Shuette, Jillian Schuette, Zoe Beavers, and Jimmy Mount; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Joseph Dale Beavers; four sisters, Neva, Thelma, Dorothy and Fern; and her brother, Lambert ( Bert ) Kearney. \r\n\r\nElla was a proud mother of her twin boys and she devoted many happy years to their growth. She was employed for 20 years by the Mattoon Board of Education as a school cook, retiring in 1982. Ella was an avid traveler, visiting all 48 continental states, as well as Mexico and Canada.\r\n\r\nAfter her retirement, Ella and James purchased a 30 foot trailer and spent 5 months out of each of the next 19 years as residents of McAllen, Texas. While in Texas, Ella volunteered for Children Haven International, teaching English as a second language. Ella was a member of the Christian Missionary Alliance and Grace Fellowship Church for 62 years.
