Edward "Ed" H. Davis

Edward “Ed” H. Davis, age 90 of Mattoon, IL peacefully passed away on Monday, June 3, 2024, at Willow Breeze Hospice House in Mattoon, IL. A funeral service in his honor will be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, June 6, 2024, at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, located at 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938; Reverend Steve Morgan will officiate. A committal service will immediately follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens. The visitation will be held from 11:30 AM until the time of service at the funeral home. Ed was born on March 28, 1934, in Xenia, IL to the late Hershel S. and Blanche (Fry) Davis. He married Shirley L. Hamilton on April 24, 1956, in Flora, IL. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-eight years, Shirley Davis of Mattoon, IL; two daughters, Debra K. Buford and husband Tim of Mattoon, IL, Cynthia L. Vandeventer and husband Mark of Sullivan, IL; six grandchildren: Timothy J. Buford of St. Louis, MO, Teresa L. Buford of Fenton, MO, Tyler E. Buford and wife Sammy of Gays, IL, Trevor L. Buford and wife Emma of Mattoon, IL, Colin J. Vandeventer and wife Caley of Mattoon, IL, April L Seitzinger and husband Holten of Cerra Gordo, IL; eleven great-grandchildren and expecting another in July; one sister, Mary Beth Hagen of Flora, IL; and one brother-in-law and best friend, Ray Hamilton and his family of Mattoon, IL. He is preceded in death by one brother, Robert, and sister, Carolyn. Ed honorably served our country in the United States Army. He was a faithful member of the United Christian Church of Mattoon, IL. For forty-eight years, Mr. Davis worked in auto parts sales. He retired from Big A Auto Parts, and prior to that he worked at Herman Motor Discount Auto Parts both of Mattoon, IL. His career choice suited him well as he was very mechanically inclined and enjoyed tinkering with, fixing things, and also working with heavy equipment. He particularly loved motors and especially the ones that did not run. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and was a member of the Gold Wing Riders Association. A loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many, Ed will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered.
