Dr. Mark Dettro

Mattoon-Dr. Mark R. Dettro, age 51, of Mattoon, passed away at 7:07 a.m., on Friday, May 30, 2008 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center. \r\n\r\nThe funeral service in his honor will begin at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, located at 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, Illinois. Pastor Lou Butler will officiate and eulogies will be given by Greg Dettro and Jon Henderson. Interment will be in Dodge Grove Cemetery, Mattoon. Visitation will be Tuesday evening after 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.\r\n\r\nDr. Dettro was born in Effingham, Illinois on March 27, 1957, the son of Dr. Roger W. and Winifred Rose (Hardy) Dettro. They survive. He married Jill Thompson on August 2, 1997 in Mattoon. She survives. In addition to his loving wife, Jill, he is survived by four children, Heather Felton and husband Adam of Louisville, Kentucky, Stephanie Dettro and Kyle Dettro, both of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, and Alexis Thompson of Mattoon; one brother, Greg Dettro and wife Betsy of St. Charles, Illinois; two nephews, Tyler Dettro and Scott Dettro, both of St. Charles, Illinois; his in-laws, Gary and Dixie Welker of Springboro, Pennsylvania; and several cousins. \r\n\r\nDr. Dettro graduated from the University of Illinois and University of Illinois Medical School and had been a physician at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center. He was a life member of the Central Community Church, a former member of the Mattoon Rotary, a member of the Mattoon Golf and Country Club, and a Commissioner on the Lafayette Township Board. He also supported several charitable organizations. \r\n\r\nMark enjoyed sports, especially playing golf. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Bears fan. Mark loved attending to and associating with his patients. He was a caring husband, father, son, brother, and uncle.
